Soft-steamed sweet potato wedges and big broccoli florets, sized for little fists. A baby-led weaning starter: finger-length, easy to grip, and soft enough to squash between your thumb and finger.

Ingredients

Sweet Potato1 medium (~200g)
Broccoli4 large florets (~60g)
Olive Oiloptionalfew drops

Instructions

  1. 1Peel 1 medium sweet potato and cut it into wedges about the length and width of an adult finger (roughly 6cm x 1.5cm).
  2. 2Cut broccoli into large florets, leaving a long stalk on each as a built-in handle.
  3. 3Steam the sweet potato for 12-15 minutes and the broccoli for 6-8 minutes, until both squash easily between your thumb and finger.
  4. 4Cool until just warm and pat dry. If you like, brush the sweet potato with a few drops of olive oil. Place 2-3 pieces on the tray at a time for your baby to grab and gnaw.
  5. 5Always sit your baby upright and stay with them while they eat. Gagging is a normal part of learning; if a piece doesn't squash easily, steam it for longer.
