A classic first spoonful made friendlier: iron-fortified infant rice cereal swirled with soft steamed pear. Fortified cereal is one of the simplest ways to add iron at 6 months, when babies' stores start to run low.

Ingredients

Iron-Fortified Infant Rice Cereal15g (4 tbsp)
Pear1/2 ripe (~80g)

Instructions

  1. 1Peel, core and dice 1/2 ripe pear, then steam for 6-8 minutes until very soft.
  2. 2Mash or blend the pear until completely smooth.
  3. 3Stir 15g (about 4 tbsp) iron-fortified infant rice cereal into 60-75ml warm breast milk, formula or cooled boiled water, as the pack directs, until smooth and lump-free.
  4. 4Swirl in the pear purée. Keep it thin for the first few spoonfuls and make it thicker as your baby gets used to eating.
  5. 5Serve straight away and discard anything left in the bowl. Rotate with oat and other grain cereals through the week rather than serving rice every day.
