Hard-cooked whole egg mashed into creamy avocado: an easy way to introduce egg, one of the most common food allergens, from around 6 months. Current guidance supports offering well-cooked whole egg early and then keeping it in the diet regularly.

Ingredients

Egg1
Avocado1/2 ripe (~70g)

Instructions

  1. 1Put 1 egg in a small pan of cold water, bring to the boil, then simmer for 10-12 minutes until both the white and the yolk are completely firm. Never serve runny or soft-boiled egg to babies.
  2. 2Cool the egg in cold water, peel it, and mash the whole egg very finely with a fork (or blend it with a splash of breast milk or formula for a smoother texture).
  3. 3Scoop the flesh from 1/2 ripe avocado and mash until smooth.
  4. 4Mix the egg and avocado together, loosening with a little breast milk or formula if it feels dry or sticky.
  5. 5Offer a small amount the first time, early in the day, and watch for any reaction for a couple of hours. Once egg is tolerated, keep offering it regularly. Check with your doctor first if your baby has eczema or a known food allergy.

Safety Notes

Cook Eggs Thoroughly

Eggs must be fully cooked (no runny yolks or whites) when served to infants and young children to prevent Salmonella infection.
